Our History …
… has been one of constant activity and excitement for both the Chorus and the Midlands communities that we serve.
Only three months after our founding in, March 2004, the Chorus produced a Fourth of July Show for our rehearsal hosts, Lexington Baptist Church, with some “personnel” help from our sponsoring chapter, Augusta, Georgia. In 2005 we sang our Fourth of July Show again, complete with chorus and quartets, and have performed it annually ever since! Watch for dates and times each year to be posted on the church's marquee.
The Main Street Harmonizers chorus competes with other choruses in the Southeastern (Dixie District) Region of the United States. In the district’s fall contest of 2004, we were invited to sing as “mic testers” … what an honor! Then, in the spring contest of 2005, we introduced our Brilliantly Red new uniforms on stage for our first “official” competition, and extracted an audible gasp of excitement from the audience. Again, in the fall of 2005, the chorus placed a respectable 17th in a district of over 110 choral chapters … and first place among the 11 South Carolina chapters … not bad for the new kids on the “Barbershop” block. Each March and October we attend and compete to better our craft and to fellowship with our barbershopping brothers ... what a great time!
Our chorus and quartets have performed all over the Lexington and Richland County areas, primarily in churches, nursing homes, and community functions. Our Singing Valentines program has been well accepted in the Midlands area and we will again produce our annual spring Barbershop Concert and Show this year with another recognized quartet as a headliner. See the “See Us” page for more information on our past and future performances.
